Preparing An Academic Rental
A home provided to a renter in good condition should be returned to the homeowner in the same condition.
With that in mind, we kindly ask that you do the following and ensure the house is stocked with the following items:
- Microwave
- Toaster
- Matching dish sets, flatware, and glassware (enough for full capacity)
- Basic cleaning products
- Kitchen supplies/utensils
- Potholders
- Newer pots and pans/a variety of cookware in good condition
- Seating in the kitchen/dining area to accommodate full capacity
- Trash & starter trash bag
- Recycle bin
- Appliances in good working order
- Dresser
- Waterproof/insect-proof mattress cover/pads
- Curtains/blinds
- Nightstand(s)
- Working lamps with new bulbs (if applicable)
- Remove pillows, blankets, sheets – students bring their own
- Mattress, box springs, bed frames in good, clean condition.
Store away outdoor furniture & gas grill Winterize showers and hoses, or arrange for a plumber to take care of this in the fall (by November) Spray paint mark your house number on the trash can lid Use trash corrals to keep critters out and prevent wind from toppling garbage cans Provide a recycling bin (either the blue bins from Narragansett Rubbish or a properly marked regular trash can). Students take recycling very seriously!
